A mild but persistent weather system has pushed into the state, with fog and drizzle expected for several days, forecasters say.
In the afternoon, lightning is forecast for the Denver metro area, with the possibility of both snow showers and lightning in northern Colorado.
“The most deadly form of severe weather in Colorado is lightning,” said Carl Burroughs, meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Boulder. “People need to be very cautious.”
Today the central and northern mountains could get up to 3 inches of snow, Burroughs said.
But Denver area residents won’t see too much rain.
“It will be light amounts, probably less than a tenth of an inch,” Burroughs said.
Temperatures are expected to rise to the low 50s today, he said.
The weather system will linger in Colorado until at least Friday with a 20-percent to 30-percent chance of rain each day.
High temperatures will be in the 50s and 60s through Tuesday and rise to the upper 60s and low 70s by Wednesday and Thursday, Burroughs said.
