Dozens of women wearing red and holding signs have staged a rally for equal pay on the steps of the Colorado Capitol.

Tuesday is Equal Pay Day, and the demonstrators say there’s still a huge gap between the salaries of men and women.

They say women are paid on average 78 cents for every dollar their male counterparts are paid.

They say on a state level, the figures are only slightly better, with women earning 80 cents on the dollar.

The protest is one of many rallies around the nation seeking equality.

Inside the Capitol, lawmakers in both the House and Senate passed a resolution backing their cause. Some of them also wore red in support of the demonstrators.
