It’s always a little disappointing when Cinco de Mayo falls on a weekday. This year, it’s on Tuesday — not exactly a day to party, unless you can be a bit unproductive on Wednesday.

On the bright side, there are two weekends to mark the occasion: Have a little something this weekend — a little tequila, a Negro Modelo — and cut loose next weekend, when the city celebration goes down in Civic Center.

For now, the Denver Green Festival is the big thing as it takes over the Colorado Convention Center on Saturday and Sunday. Appropriately, there’s a party on Saturday to divide up the days.

Hosted by Blue and Yellow Logic, a local sustainability organization, the party features music by Stic.man of hip-hop duo Dead Prez, plus Yorubawoman and DJ Cavem. It promises to be a hip evening in the River North district — drop in at the artsy Taxi 2 building, 3457 Ringsby Court, Suite 100.

Admission is $5 at the door, or $3 with a ticket stub from the Green Festival. It’s a bargain either way: The party runs 9 p.m.-4 a.m.

After the Green Fest closes down on Sunday, there’s another gathering to tie up loose ends. From 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. the Avid Green party will have the Oriental Theater (4335 W. 44th Ave.) humming with talk of sustainability and community.

Check out pieces by local artists, listen to live music and catch a dance performance when you’re not networking. Tickets are $10 at the door, or $5 for Green Festival badgeholders. Advance tickets are $8 at .

Another thought for this weekend, in case green isn’t your color: The Kentucky Derby is on Saturday. The Bluegrass State is far away, but mint juleps will certainly be flowing in the Mile High City.

Nine75 (975 Lincoln St.) is hosting a pre- Derby brunch — and if you have tickets to the Sean “Ranch” Lough Foundation Derby Party at the Denver Botanic Gardens, it’s a special treat.

Derby Party ticketholders can take a free shuttle to and from the Botanic Gardens. So hoist an extra helping of the bottomless mimosas — the ride’s free.

Derby fans who aren’t lucky enough to have Derby Party tickets are welcome, too. Brunch starts at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Sprung.

Ah, what would springtime be without the In Bloom party?

It’s the sixth year for the celebration of warm weather to come, and its second year at Beta (1909 Market St.). This time the theme is “One World.”

As always, fashion is the focus at In Bloom, and this year’s styles will come from around the globe. It’s all local on the turntables, though: DJ Brian Howe will warm up the revelers, followed by the Manufactured Superstars tag-team.

Advance tickets to the 18-and-up party are $10 on .

Toxic, in a good way.

Dance-floor evildoers, beware: The Toxic Avenger is on the way.

The spooky-looking French DJ is spinning at The Church (1160 Lincoln St.) on Thursday, bringing his blend of huge beats and sinister sounds. It’s hard, intense electro, but thankfully very danceable.

Give the first song at at . a listen. It’s called “Dbag,” and it’s intense. Tickets are $10 in advance at .
