WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — Cristie Kerr took the lead with a birdie on the 15th hole and held off In-Kyung Kim by two strokes to win the Michelob Ultra Open on Sunday.

“I knew at the time where I stood, and I knew that was a must,” she said of her decision to go for the green at No. 15 for the first time in four rounds at Kingsmill.

Kerr had a 16-under-par 268 total and earned $330,000 for her 12th career LPGA Tour title. She closed with a 1-under 70 after opening with rounds of 69, 63 and 66.

Only half of the top 10 finishers shot under par, and none was better than 3-under.

“The course played a lot different. It played a lot tougher,” Kerr said, citing the soggy fairways from several days of rain, shifting wind and difficult pin placements.

Lorena Ochoa, whose 13-under total after two rounds was a tournament record, started the day five shots back, and a birdie on the first hole hinted that she might make a charge. But the world’s top-ranked player followed with bogeys on three of her next four holes and faded to a 74.

Daly finishes second

TURIN, Italy — Argentina’s Daniel Vancsik won the Italian Open for his second PGA European Tour title, closing with a 6-under 65 for a six- stroke victory over John Daly, Raphael Jacquelin and Robert Rock. Daly, playing the European tour while he serves a six-month PGA Tour suspension, had a 66.
