CORTEZ, Colo.—A 10-year-old girl has died after she and a friend were struck by a car while bicycling through a downtown Cortez intersection.
The collision happened Sunday evening.
Cortez Police Chief Roy Lane says Sherae House was taken by helicopter to a Grand Junction hospital, where she died from head injuries Monday evening.
Lane says House and 8-year-old Raven Roy were on a bike together when they failed to stop at a stop sign and headed into the vehicle’s path. The car’s driver wasn’t cited.
Lane says Roy suffered broken bones and was being treated at a Cortez hospital.
Neither girl was wearing a helmet.
