A fifth-grader at Boulder’s Mesa Elementary School reported this morning that he ran from a blue pickup truck after the vehicle stopped next to him and someone inside opened a door and said something to him.
Boulder police said they are investigating the incident as a possible attempted abduction.
Police said the child told them he was walking with his scooter along Lafayette Drive toward the school at 1575 Lehigh St., when the pickup pulled up.
He said somebody inside the truck said something to him that he did not understand. He ran from the area and immediately told school employees about the incident.
The vehicle is described as a blue pickup with a camper shell.
Sarah Huntley, spokeswoman for the Boulder Police Department, said investigators at this point don’t know what the intention was of the person in the vehicle.
However, she said the incident is still under investigation and that extra patrols are being conducted near the school to ensure the safety of the students.
