LITTLETON, Colo.—Work is set to start on Colorado’s first highway project funded entirely with federal stimulus money.
A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled Tuesday in Littleton where a mile of Belleview Avenue will be repaved for $1.2 million.
Maryland-based Aggregate Industries, which has regional offices in Golden, will do the job.
Two other stimulus highway projects are expected to begin this week—Colorado 62 between Ridgway and Telluride and Interstate 70 between Wadsworth and Kipling west of Denver.
Colorado is getting about $400 million for highway projects and another $103 million for mass transit from the stimulus package.
So far, the state has committed to spending about 40 percent of the highway money.
