Worker’s compensation insurance providers offer an early line of defense when an outbreak of illnesses hits a workplace.
But even the state’s largest provider of worker’s comp, Pinnacol Assurance, hasn’t been immune from the swine-flu outbreak.
A unidentified Pinnacol employee may have contracted the H1N1 virus in a likely but still unconfirmed case, said spokeswoman Suzi Stolte.
“We let all of our employees know there was a probable case,” she said.
The company activated its incident management last week and informed its 625 workers about the case.
Pinnacol didn’t close down and followed guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention such as frequent hand-washing and encouraging workers showing symptoms to stay home.
No other cases have emerged at the company, Stolte said. As of Monday, there were 53 confirmed cases of swine flu in the state. Aldo Svaldi, The Denver Post
