Getting your player ready...

— Reliever Glendon Rusch’s career with the Rockies is over. Rusch said today that he would not report to Triple-A Colorado Springs, though he’s not retiring.

“I don’t want to go there and go through that again. Especially if they start calling up younger guys as the season goes on,” Rusch told The Denver Post. “I would rather stay home with my family.”

The Rockies are expected to place Rusch on the restricted list, rather than grant him free agency. Rusch was the first casualty of the disappointing season, designated for assignment last week.

The move blindsided and upset teammates. Though only with the Rockies for a year, Rusch evolved into one of the most popular players in the clubhouse.

“I have an open mind about still pitching. What this made me realize again is that this is a business. I don’t feel the time was right or that it was the right decision,” Rusch said. “But it’s business. I miss being around the guys and wish them well.”
