Plans for the Memorial Day weekend in Colorado should take rain showers into account, so bring an umbrella.
Denver and other widespread parts of the state stand a chance of showers through the long holiday weekend, but afternoon thunderstorms and locally heavy rains also may be possible into early next week, the National Weather Service reports.
Heavy rains could burst along the Front Range and up into the Foothills this afternoon, the weather service warns.
The high temperature in Denver today, and through the weekend, should be in the lower 70s with overnight lows in the 50s, according to the weather service.
The chance for precipitation in Denver through the weekend will be about 40 percent, with Monday drying out just a bit as the chance drops off to 30 percent, the weather service said.
Heavy moisture in the state could bring a chance for snow showers above 9,000 feet, and some mountain passes could become slushy overnight, the weather service warns.
Many rivers and streams in Colorado, especially on the Western Slope, will be at capacity this weekend as the high country snow melt continues. Flood advisories continue for many waterways, including the Colorado River near Cameo in Mesa County, the Eagle River below Gypsum in Eagle County and the Yampa River in Steamboat Springs.
