Eagle County rescuers pulled an injured 10-year-old from a ravine today after the child rolled his all-terrain vehicle 50 to 70 feet down the steep embankment.

The boy, who was not identified, was airlifted to a hospital with a broken leg and other injuries. He was spared more serious injuries because he was wearing a helmet with a face guard, according to the Eagle County Sheriff’s office.

He was four-wheeling with his family in the Firebox area of Hardscrabble Mountain about 1:45 p.m. when the accident occurred.

Crews from Vail Mountain Rescue Group, Greater Eagle Fire Protection District, Western Eagle County Ambulance District and St. Mary’s Care Fight assisted with rescue.
