GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—The crowded garage that serves as the East Orchard Mesa Fire Protection District firehouse is for sale.
The fire district plans to build a bigger, four-bay station on donated land nearby. Firefighters say they have three vehicles crammed into their current building, which was designed for two. That makes it hard to get the trucks out quickly.
John Cox, president of the fire district’s board of directors, says money for the new station would come from the sale of the old one plus other district funds.
He says the district doesn’t expect to have to raise taxes or fees.
