CHARLESTON, W.Va.—Natural gas producer Cabot Oil & Gas says it’s closing its West Virginia and Denver offices by the end of the summer.

Cabot said Thursday it’s planning to open a regional office in Pittsburgh to oversee operations in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and the Rocky Mountains. Cabot says it’s also combining Gulf Coast and mid-continent operations.

CEO Dan Dinges says more than half the workers affected by the changes will be transferred, though the company provided no figures.

The Charleston Gazette newspaper reported that 25 West Virginia employees have been asked to move and 15 will lose their jobs.

Dinges says Cabot is trying to make itself more efficient and better positioned to drill in the Marcellus Shale, a vast gas deposit deep under parts of New York, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
