Getting your player ready...

There’s really nothing good about eating while you’re driving. It’s dangerous, messy and an insult to whatever it is you’re munching on. Your lunch deserves your full attention.

But eating in a car, a parked car, is a different story. It’s still messy, but there’s something about sitting in your own little cage, cranking the radio as loud as you want, and munching on a drive-through burrito that’s just so American and wonderful.

You can’t beat Griff’s when it comes to car-bound burgers, but when it comes to hand-held burritos, don’t discount Twisters, a small New Mexico chain with three area locations.

You can get a burger if you like (even a decent-but-not-life- changing green chile cheeseburger), but your best in-car bet is the hand-held carne adovada burrito. A peppy sauce surrounds the torn meat and chunks of soft potatoes, making this very filling $5-and-change lunch feel more energetic than it should.

(Oh, and if you’ve got a fussy kid in the backseat, Twisters has you covered with corn dogs, chicken nuggets and fries.)

Breakfast burrito fans likely have their go-to favorites (Little Anita’s, Santiagos), but those still in the market for a declared favorite would do well to visit Twisters to sample and rate their offerings in the category. Break out of the green-chile rut and choose the “South Valley” burrito—chorizo, eggs, potatoes and red chile ($3.99).
