Hail, rain and lightning hit the Denver metro area tonight and the downpour will continue well into Tuesday.
Some areas got more than others. Thornton saw more than half an inch of rain in just 13 minutes Monday evening, said Frank Benton, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. The Julesburg area reported about an inch of rain as of 8:30 p.m.
There were several reports of funnel clouds along the Front Range but none touched the ground, Benton said.
The thunder and lighting was expected to diminish overnight but the rain will continue through much of the day Tuesday, when a cold front will sweep through most of the state.
There will be a chance for snow Tuesday in the high country, especially along and just east of the Continental Divide, the weather service said.
Weather east of the Continental Divide throughout much of the state will be unseasonably cool, and the high temperature in Denver is only expected to reach 54 degrees, the weather service said.
Moisture will continue to stream into the state through the week, and late-day showers and thunderstorms are in the weather service forecast for wide parts of Colorado through Sunday.
