After spending the night on a concrete buttress that supports a bridge over Cherry Creek in Denver, James Wright awoke to find his usual way out along a ledge underwater.
Wright, 50 and homeless, passed Tuesday morning dry on his pedestal above the swelling creek, smoking cigarettes. Eventually, he was spotted by a police officer and decided to call 911 on a cellphone. Firefighters lowered a ladder off the bridge, and two waded through the knee-deep, rushing water out to Wright using the same ledge he typically uses when dry. Kieran Nicholson, The Denver Post
