Excelsior Youth Center completed its swimming pool and recreation center last July, giving its nearly 200 residents a place where they can swim and enjoy a respite from their year-round schooling and treatment. What the organization needs this summer are swimsuits for the female residents age 11 to 18. “We need a full spectrum of sizes, from those that would fit a preteen girl to a girl weighing 300 pounds,” according to Carena Reber, development assistant. The group is requesting the suits be on the modest side — one-piece styles or tankinis that cover the chest and midriff (Style shown, right, from Kohl’s). The can also take gently used suits as long as they’re not too worn or faded. Money is appreciated, too. “We figure about $25 a swimsuit, but if we can find them for $15 at Target, the money will go that much further,” Reber says.
