An 8-year-old boy got hold of his mother’s car keys early this morning and took her SUV for a spin, Commerce City Police said.
The unidentified boy drove around the block a little after 7:30 a.m. When a passerby tried to stop him, the boy lost control of the vehicle, police said. It drove through several fences. Police said the SUV eventually high-centered on some landscaping rocks near East 70th Avenue and Cherry.
No one was injured but several dogs escaped after the fences were damaged.
Police said that the boy cannot be charged because of his age. Officials and currently determining the mother’s liability.
