BOULDER — Jury selection got underway Monday in the trial of Diego Olmos Alcalde, who is accused of beating to death 23-year-old Susannah Chase in Boulder nearly a dozen years ago.
Lawyers are meeting behind closed doors for one-on-one interviews with prospective jurors.
Alcalde is on trial for the Dec. 21, 1997, rape and bludgeoning of Chase, a University of Colorado senior who was walking home from the Pearl Street Mall when she was attacked.
Police arrested Alcalde in January 2008 after his DNA — submitted to a nationwide criminal database — matched genetic material found in Chase’s body.
