Reigning world championship gold medalist Todd Lodwick and 2003 world champion Johnny Spillane, both of Steamboat Springs, make up two-thirds of the newly named 2010 U.S. nordic combined “A” team. Fellow world champion Billy Demong of Vermontville, N.Y., also was named to the team.
Seven skiers made the “B” team, including Brett Denney, Bryan Fletcher, Taylor Fletcher and Alex Miller, all members of the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club. The 2010 Olympic team, which will be named primarily from current season results, will be announced Jan. 21.
Scoring error nets new winner.
Because of a scoring error, Dan Gavere of Hood River, Ore., was mistakenly awarded second place at the Whitewater Stand-Up Paddle Championships in Glenwood Springs on May 31. After correcting the error, Gavere was named winner of the three-part competition reported in The Denver Post last week. Charlie MacArthur of Aspen finished second.
