Friday could be your lucky day.

The Colorado Lottery is giving away free $5 scratch tickets Friday at locations in Denver, Fort Collins, Pueblo and Grand Junction, according to lottery officials.

The giveaway is to help celebrate $5 billion in scratch-ticket sales since the game’s kickoff 26 years ago, according to a lottery media release.

“This is our way of thanking the people of Colorado for their support throughout the years,” Colorado Lottery Director Jack Boehm said in the release. “Our strong scratch-ticket sales have helped raise essential funds to protect Colorado’s natural beauty and expand the state’s reputation as a great place to live and play.”

Starting at 11 a.m. Friday, Denver-area residents can get a free ticket at Infinity Park in Glendale, 4599 E. Tennessee Ave. About 2,000 tickets will be available.

Tickets in Pueblo will be distributed at the Pueblo Plaza Ice Arena, 100 N. Grand Ave.; in Fort Collins at the Northside Aztlan Community Center, 112 E. Willow St.; and in Grand Junction at Lincoln Park, between 12th and North avenues.

Tickets at all locations will be distributed while supplies last or until about 1 p.m. Participants must be 18 or older, there is a limit of one ticket per person and no purchase is necessary.

The lottery has returned more than $2 billion to the state, including funding for new trails and contributions to open space and wildlife protection through Great Outdoors Colorado, the Conservation Trust Fund and Colorado State Parks, the lottery said.
