Panasonic has taken the wraps off two new camcorders that weigh a feathery eight ounces and shoot video at the full high-definition resolution of 1920-by-1080 pixels.
The difference between the $550 HDC-SD10 and the $600 HDC-TM10 is that the SD10 uses an SDHC/SD card for memory while the TM10 has eight gigabytes of built-in memory as well as a slot for SDHC/SD cards. The TM10 can shift from recording to the built-in memory to an SD card when the built-in memory is full, resulting in uninterrupted recording. Both will be available in September.
Both have a 16X optical zoom lens and include optical image stabilization. The cameras also include an auto-exposure tracking feature that tracks a moving subject to maintain the proper focus and exposure. The camcorders, like most new Panasonic models, also include an automatic scene-mode capability; face detection, which adjusts the exposure; and intelligent contrast control. Rik Fairlie
