AURORA — A 6-year-old boy walked around an unfamiliar neighborhood for about an hour Friday after a day-care bus left him behind at a park following a field trip, police said.

The boy, according to 9News, was on a field trip with 12 or 13 other children from the Beacon Child Care Center at Great Plains Park. Teachers did not notice the boy was missing until the group returned to the day care.

Owner Sin Lee said four teachers were on the field trip with the children. It is the center’s policy to do a head count before returning to the day care. Lee wasn’t sure whether a head count was done this time.

“They missed it; they made a mistake no matter what you say,” Lee said. “We’ve never had a problem like this before.”

Aurora police spokeswoman Shannon Lucy said the child was found walking around a neighborhood near the park.
