STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo.—A prayer vigil is planned Tuesday for the family of a woman missing after falling into a creek near Steamboat Springs.

Forty-year-old Rebecca Green fell into Fish Creek on Saturday while hiking with her 8-year-old son.

Searchers have found her hat and shoes but the search was scaled back Monday because of dangerous heavy water flows. A spokeswoman for search crews said hopes of finding Green are fading.

Green’s father says she fell in while trying to help her son back from a rock. He said the boy slipped and Green fell in while trying to catch him. The boy said he was able to grab a branch and pull himself out.

The vigil will be held at the United Methodist Church, where Green has been an active volunteer.
