WASHINGTON — Newly released documents show an accused al-Qaeda mastermind complaining he was tortured into lying, even as he confessed to many successful terror plots.

The government has released new versions of transcripts of hearings held at the Guantanamo Bay detention center, which show Khalid Sheik Mohammed and other accused high-ranking terror detainees saying harsh interrogation methods led them to offer false stories.

The documents were released after the American Civil Liberties Union sued for a more full accounting of the 2007 detainee hearings of Mohammed and others.
