PUEBLO — River rafters are unhappy about a 3 1/2-mile-long string of graffiti-sprayed railroad cars parked along the scenic Arkansas River in Colorado.
The cars belong to Union Pacific Corp., which said it has 71,000 of them in storage nationwide because the recession has reduced freight traffic.
Jeremy Fick, a guide with Echo Canyon River Expeditions, said his clients and other guides are talking about the unsightly line of cars.
Colorado State Parks spokeswoman Deb Frazier said parks officials spoke with Union Pacific at the request of river outfitters, but the division doesn’t have the power to do anything else.
Mark Davis, a spokesman for the Omaha-based railroad, said Union Pacific would love to have the cars back in service but for now has no use for them.
