DENVER—The first major construction on the Regional Transportation District’s FasTrack’s project is set to start along the west corridor.

FasTracks, approved by Denver-area voters in 2004, includes plans for new light-rail lines, enhanced bus service and new transit stations across eight counties, with completion scheduled for 2017.

RTD general manager Cal Marsella says Friday’s announcement that the district signed a construction agreement with the Denver Transit Construction Group is a major milestone. He says as work starts along West Sixth Avenue, people will see what they voted for coming to life.

The west corridor line will operate between Denver Union Station in downtown Denver and the Jefferson County Government Center in Golden.

The entire project is expected to cost $6.9 billion.
