AURORA, Colo.—The city of Aurora is eliminating eight employees and 41 positions in a reorganization that consolidates some departments.
Officials say reshuffling the city’s roughly 2,600 employees will save almost $1.5 million annually, and eliminating the 41 jobs will help the city avoid about $2.5 million in costs.
City Manager Ron Miller says the objective is to improve customer service, reduce operating costs and save money.
Aurora had to make up a budget shortfall of about $10 million this year amid falling tax revenues. Projections for 2010 call for a budget gap of $10 million to $20 million.
Employees who are being laid off are receiving six months’ notice.
The reorganization plan will be phased in beginning Aug. 1.
