No surprise here — Buena Vista’s Mason Finley has been named Gatorade’s Colorado high school boys track and field athlete of the year.
The UCLA-bound Finley set the national schoolboy record of 236 feet, 6 inches in the discus and went 71-8 3/4 in the shot put, which ranked fourth nationally.
Also owner of a 3.75 GPA, Finley is a finalist for national boys track athlete of the year.
“He’s just someone we’ll never see in Colorado ever again,” Buena Vista head coach Kyle Graff said. “At the state meet, he was like a rock star. I’m not going to have another one like him.”
