Construction began Thursday on a school campus that will sit on Green Valley Ranch Boulevard in northeast Denver.

The $47.2 million project will house two new district schools: a preschool-through-fifth-grade academy and a new chapter of the sixth- through-12th-grade Denver School of Science and Technology charter, which was approved last week by the school board. The two schools will serve more than 1,200 students.

The campus is expected to be finished before the 2010-11 school year, according to Alex Sanchez, spokesman for Denver Public Schools.
