COLORADO SPRINGS — A motorcycle officer is in serious condition after a downtown collision with a car Sunday.

Steven Davis, who has been with the Colorado Springs department since 2004, had surgery Sunday night to help repair a fractured pelvis and damage to his legs, said police spokesman Lt. David Whitlock. His condition is not life-threatening, Whitlock said.

Davis was riding east on Platte Avenue about 5:40 p.m. and was trying to make a traffic stop near Wahsatch Avenue, police said. Whitlock said Davis had a green light as he went through the intersection, and his motorcycle was struck by a Chevy Cobalt car turning left onto Wahsatch.

Witnesses said Davis was thrown several feet. He ended up about 100 feet from the motorcycle.
