SAN’A, Yemen — A Yemenia Air plane going from the Arabian Peninsula country of Yemen to the Comoros Islands has crashed in the Indian Ocean, a Yemen airport official said this morning.

The official said that most of the passengers on the Airbus 310 were thought to be Comoros residents. The official was speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media.

The Comoros Islands lie between the southeast African coast and Madagascar in the Indian Ocean.

It was not known how many passengers were on board or the reason for the crash.
