U.S. wins Davis Cup doubles

POREC, Croatia — Bob and Mike Bryan defeated Roko Karanusic and Lovro Zovko 6-3, 6-1, 6-3 in doubles to keep the U.S. alive in the Davis Cup, cutting Croatia’s quarterfinal lead to 2-1.

Sam Querrey used his big serve to upset two-time defending champion Fabrice Santoro 6-3, 7-6 (2) to reach the finals of the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships in Newport, R.I.

Former champ Gatti found dead

SAO PAULO — Former junior welterweight boxing champion Arturo Gatti, 37, one of the most exciting fighters of his generation, was found dead in a hotel room in Porto de Galihnas, Brazil.

• German Felix Sturm (33-2-1) retained his WBA middleweight title, beating Armenian Khoren Gevor (30-4) in a unanimous decision in Nuerburg, Germany.
