LONDON — Hundreds of Michael Jackson fans gathered outside London’s O2 arena to pay tribute to the late star on what would have been the evening of his first concert in a comeback tour.

The fans brought candles and flowers to lay outside the 23,000-seat arena Monday, where Jackson was due to begin his run of 50 concerts. Some danced, some wrote tributes and others watched images of Jackson beamed on a big screen.

Social networking sites and Jackson fan sites had encouraged people to come to the arena Monday to remember the singer. The Associated Press
