NORWOOD, Colo.—Fire officials expect to soon have a wildfire that has burned about acres in southwest Colorado fully contained.

Crews had built containment lines around 35 percent of the blaze by Thursday evening. People were allowed to return to 20 homes that were evacuated Tuesday when the fire started about five miles from Norwood.

Another 20 homes were threatened for a while by the flames. No structures have burned.

Four hotshot crews and more than 16 engines were sent to the fast-moving fire. Firefighters who were protecting structures are being let go.

Updated mapping shows the fire has scorched 801 acres instead of the nearly 900 acres previously reported.

Officials say lightning may have sparked the fire Tuesday afternoon on federal land in a canyon.
