MESA COUNTY — The Dominguez fire in Mesa County has reached about 800 acres in size, but it isn’t threatening any buildings, according to the agencies fighting the blaze.

With high temperatures and possible thunderstorms forecast in the area today, the fire, which is burning on federal land, is expected to grow. But fire officials aren’t overly concerned.

“We had plans to conduct some prescribed burns in these areas in the future, so it’s great to see this work being accomplished through natural fire and in a cost-effective manner,” said Connie Clementson, Grand Valley district ranger. The fire started July 10 with a lightning strike.
