DEVELOPING: GPS HISTORY

GPS HISTORY

HARVARD—Somehow, history is a lot more fun to learn for one Harvard man when he’s led to it by a hand-held global positioning system unit. Too bad Dick Kloke, 63, didn’t have one of those back in high school. By Charis Ubben of the Hastings Tribune. Eds: A Nebraskaland Feature.

BRITAIN-CONSTABLE’S DUES

LONDON—The crew of a U.S. Navy ship led by their Nebraska commander made history on Saturday by delivering a keg of wine to the Tower of London. The guided missile frigate USS Halyburton was the first foreign ship to participate in the annual Constable’s Dues ceremony at the tower, recalling the long-past powers of the Constable of the Tower to collect a bit of cargo from every ship entering London.

OBAMA-HEALTH CARE STRATEGY

WASHINGTON—President Barack Obama is using a touch-all-bases approach to try push through his health care overhaul, a struggle that might demand deep concessions. He’s summoned Republicans and Democrats to the White House. He’s used public forums to bypass Congress and make a direct pitch to the people. He’s turned to his political operation to air campaign-like TV ads. By Charles Babington. Eds: Note Nebraska mention.
