LARAMIE, Wyo.—A new study conducted in Wyoming suggests that efforts to improve sage grouse habitat may actually hurt the birds.

The study conducted by Wyoming Wildlife Consultants LLC links the amount of sagebrush disturbed in landscapes with population declines of the chicken-sized bird.

The study was funded by Biodiversity Conservation Alliance of Laramie.

The study was conducted in the Bighorn Basin where little oil and gas development has occurred.

Erik Molvar of Biodiversity Conservation Alliance says land managers should be cautious about habitat manipulations in sage grouse areas until more detailed study can be done.
