MILWAUKEE — Bo Van Pelt won for the first time on the PGA Tour with a birdie Sunday on the second hole of a sudden death playoff over John Mallinger at the U.S. Bank Championship.

Van Pelt shot a final-round 64. He had two putts to win, leaving a 26-footer a little short before sinking a 2-foot birdie for his first victory in his 229th tour event.

On the second playoff hole, the 29-year-old Mallinger (65) put his second shot in a greenside bunker. Mallinger got out, but left himself a 28-footer for birdie that he pushed right of the hole and settled for par.

• Defending champ Rick Rhoden claimed his eighth win at the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship in Stateline, Nev.

Fever’s winning streak snapped

UNCASVILLE, Conn. — Lindsay Whalen had 15 points, eight rebounds and six assists as the Connecticut Sun snapped the Indiana Fever’s 11-game winning streak with a 67-61 victory.

Shameka Christon scored a career-high 32 points as the host New York Liberty defeated the Atlanta Dream 89-86.

Jia Perkins scored 29 points as the Chicago Sky beat the visiting San Antonio Silver Stars 85-75.

Camille Little scored a season- high 18 points to help the host Seattle Storm beat the Minnesota Lynx 72-69.

Taj McWilliams had 21 points and 12 rebounds as the Detroit Shock beat the host Sacramento Monarchs 69-65.

Brown wins top fuel final

KENT, Wash. — Antron Brown beat Tony Schumacher by 0.008 seconds to win the top fuel final at the NHRA Northwest Nationals.

Tim Wilkerson (funny car) and Mike Edwards (pro stock) won their respective divisions.

Hershel McGriff, 81, became the oldest driver to take part in a national NASCAR series race, finishing 13th in a Camping World West Series event at Portland (Ore.) International Raceway.
