The Colorado Public Utilities Commission will conduct a public hearing Aug. 5 on a proposal by Xcel Energy to increase electricity base rates by $180.2 million. The public hearing will be from 4 to 6 p.m. at the commission’s offices at 1560 Broadway, Suite 250.

The proposal would raise a typical residential bill by $4.98 per month and a small-business bill by about $5.40 per month.

Xcel Energy said the increase will pay for investments in generation and utility operations in Colorado.
