Colorado State Parks will celebrate the state’s birthday by offering free entrance to all 42 state parks Monday.

Free entrance to state parks is a Colorado Day tradition. The legislature created Colorado Day to mark the anniversary of statehood, granted in 1876 by President Ulysses S. Grant. Other fees will be in effect at the parks.

The parks department is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The areas it manages, with more than 4,000 campsites, draw more than 11 million visitors annually. The Associated Press
