Admission to the Colorado History Museum will be free starting Saturday in advance of the groundbreaking of its new location, the museum announced Wednesday.
The downtown museum is undergoing a “phased deconstruction.” Gov. Bill Ritter will join museum staffers and state legislators in a public groundbreaking ceremony for the museum’s new home at 12th Avenue and Broadway on Aug. 19.
Over the next several months, the museum will slowly take down its exhibits, with the final exhibition, “Allen True’s West,” slated to open in October and close on March 28, 2010.
The museum is making way for the Colorado Judicial Branch, which will take over the entire block between 13th and 14th avenues on Broadway.
