SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Members of the largest union representing state workers authorized their leaders Saturday to call a strike, although union officials said there are no plans to walk off the job.
The Service Employees Union International Local 1000 represents 95,000 workers in scores of government agencies, including clerks at the Department of Motor Vehicles, auditors at the California Franchise Tax Board and health care professionals in public hospitals.
