A rally to support the preservation of Denver-based Frontier Airlines will be held at noon Thursday in downtown Denver.

Frontier employees and supporters plan to gather for a peaceful demonstration outside Mayor John Hickenlooper’s office at the City and County Building and then walk down the 16th Street Mall.

Monday is the deadline for binding bids to acquire Frontier, which filed for bankruptcy in April 2008.

Republic Airways Holdings offered in late June to acquire Frontier for $108.7 million, saying it planned to operate Frontier as usual.

Last week, Southwest Airlines submitted a nonbinding proposal of $113.6 million, with Frontier being integrated into Southwest.

Called “Save the Animals” — in reference to the critters on the tails of Frontier planes — rally participants will wear Frontier uniforms or gear and will don signs, cow bells, whistles and hula hoops.
