Friends and family of a man shot to death in Denver in June gathered under the hot sun Wednesday for a sorrowful procession: a door-to-door campaign distributing fliers seeking information on his killing.

Billy Ortiz Jr., 21, was shot to death June 5 while sitting in his car in a parking lot near South Federal Boulevard and West Harvard Avenue. Police hope that, with the fliers’ help, they will be able to find more witnesses.

Ortiz was an avid baseball player who spent each weekend either competing or practicing and each night dreaming of playing professionally, his girlfriend, Jasmine Williams, said.

Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at 720-913-STOP (7867). Contributions to Ortiz’s memorial fund can be made to the Billy Ortiz Jr. Memorial Fund at any Wells Fargo bank. John Ingold, The Denver Post
