ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo.—Rock Springs will join Green River and Sweetwater County in fighting a proposed water pipeline from southwest Wyoming to Colorado’s Front Range.

The Rock Springs City Council voted 5-4 Tuesday to contribute $150,000 toward opposing the project.

Members of the council voiced opposition to the project but were divided on whether it was too soon to be investing money in fighting it.

The proposed $3 billion pipeline would be privately funded and would take water from the Green River, in the Flaming Gorge Reservoir area. It would be 560 miles long and run east across Wyoming and then south to Pueblo, Colo.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is overseeing an environmental study of the proposal.
