Acting U.S. Attorney for Colorado David Gaouette has been appointed to the job for another 120 days.

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder issued the 120-day appointment Saturday. Gaouette will now be U.S. attorney until President Barack Obama names a replacement. If that does not happen within four months, a court will appoint a U.S. attorney for the state. Gaouette was named acting U.S. attorney Jan. 10, after President George W. Bush’s appointee, Troy Eid, resigned. That appointment expired Aug. 7.

Colorado’s U.S. senators have recommended that Obama choose either Gov. Bill Ritter’s deputy chief of staff, Stephanie Villafuerte; 10th Judicial District Attorney Bill Thiebaut; or Denver attorney and former federal prosecutor John Walsh for the job.
