BOULDER, Colo.—Gov. Bill Ritter, state and federal administrators, scientists and engineers are launching a new center for research and development of wind-power technology.

They will attend a symposium Friday at the University of Colorado in Boulder to mark the start of the Colorado Renewable Energy Collaboratory’s Center for Research and Education in Wind, or CREW.

The mission of CREW is to work with industry and other private partners on advancing the science of wind energy and making wind power more economical and efficient. Private partners will have access to the research strength of the National Center for Atmospheric Research and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in Boulder.

The collaboratory is a consortium and includes CU, Colorado State University, Colorado School of Mines and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden.
