With all the attention Cash for Clunkers is getting, it’s easy to forget the program may not be the best option for everyone.
The Car Care Council is reminding vehicle owners that keeping vehicles running efficiently is a sensible alternative. The group offers these suggestions:
• Change the oil and filter every 3,000 to 5,000 miles or per the owner’s manual.
• Check the tire pressure at least monthly, including the spare. Your vehicle’s tires affect its ride, handling, traction and safety.
• Schedule a tune-up annually to optimize performance.
• Have the alignment checked at least annually. Proper alignment reduces tire wear, and improves fuel economy and handling.
• Windshield wipers and lights need periodic replacement.
