JEFFERSON COUNTY — A license plate left at the scene of a hit-and-run Sunday afternoon led state troopers to the home of a man they say is responsible for hospitalizing a bicyclist while driving drunk.

The cyclist was taken to St. Anthony Central Hospital with serious injuries sustained in the accident near Interstate 70’s Evergreen exit.

Troopers received a call at 4:38 p.m. after the driver allegedly fled the scene, leaving behind pieces of his Lexus, including the license plate.

Eastbound I-70 traffic was briefly shut down Sunday afternoon.

The suspect was apprehended at his home, tested for blood alcohol content and will remain in custody in Jefferson County Jail, according to Colorado State Patrol spokesman Trooper David Hall.
